I like your emphasis of Thanksgiving TV programs, they are less prevalent than the ones for Christmas and Halloween, but you gave good recommendations.
I hope your listeners who haven't seen the Turkeys Away episode of WKRP check it out. It is among the best sitcom episodes ever made.
A Charlie Brown holiday special is always an excellent choice!
I've seen the Garfield Thanksgiving special, but it's been decades. I hear so many good things about the various Garfield holiday specials. I'm going to have to give them more attention. They came out when I was a bit older, so I didn't grow up with them like I did other animated holiday fare. I'll try to catch it this year... it looks like it may be on Peacock.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is the quintessential Thanksgiving film. It is almost obligatory viewing on Thanksgiving. TNT should do a 24-hour marathon of this movie at Thanksgiving like they do A Christmas Story at Christmas.
I always like to pair my viewing of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles with the 1991 film Dutch. The two films have much in common: Dutch was another movie written and produced by John Hughes, both are Thanksgiving road trip films featuring two unlikely traveling companions, and both films have a great deal of heart. Ed O'Neill is always enjoyable to watch.
Thank you so much! I got to introduce a few folks to WKRP in Cincinnati a few years ago, and it brought laughter, even if they'd never seen another episode of the series. I've seen Dutch once or twice, but didn't care for it. Maybe I should give it another shot.
Fun Thanksgiving episode, Ashley!
