I saw Miami Blues last year . .what an odd film. The trailer makes it seem like a comedy, but the Baldwin character is basically a sociopath with next to no redeeming qualities and the climax is just a downer.
That is exactly how I perceived it when I originally saw it. Thought it was going to be a comedy. I walked out not sure what I had seen, but it stuck with me.
I watched Coogan’s Bluff last night. Early Clint Eastwood fish-out-of-water cop film. Real time capsule. New York, 1968. Sexual politics are shocking by today’s standards. And Hollywood lamely grasping at “youth culture” is amusing.
Kudos for giving Running Scared some love. I won’t argue that it’s a great movie, but Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines have great chemistry, Peter Hyams’ direction is crisp, “Sweet Freedom” is peak ‘80s, and the action sequences are gloriously over the top.
I’d add Kuffs to your list. Again, not great cinema, but Christian Slater at his snarky best, solid action sequences, a Harold Faltermeyer score, and extra points for some stylish montages. It’s not Beverly Hills Cop sequel, but it’s firmly in that universe.
This is one of the few episodes where I've not seen a single movie. Where to begin!?
Running Scared. Definitely.

FREEBIE AND THE BEAN is terrific.
